Interfacial Tension and Contact Angle Measurement

The high-pressure, high-temperature Interfacial Tension (IFT) and Contact Angle (CA) measurement apparatus was designed and fabricated in-house. The system includes several advanced modules in order to accurately and reliably measure dynamic IFT and contact angle, CMC, cloud point, etc. This apparatus is compatible with partially miscible fluids (by a phase pre-equilibration module), corrosive fluids such as sour gases since the entire setup is made from Hastelloy C276, surfactant systems with very low IFT values (as low as 0.01 mN/m), and reservoir rock systems. The results from this setup provide a better understanding of fluid-fluid and rock-fluid interfacial interactions at reservoir pressure and temperature conditions.

High Bay research facility. Inferfacial Tension and Contact Angle Measurement. Equipment details. Interfacial tension/ contact angle (IFT/CA) measurement systems are built to perform measurements under extreme conditions, such as those encountered in oil and gas reservoirs. Interfacial tension and contact angle are among the most influential parameters that considerably affect the fluid flow characteristics and subsequently the ultimate oil recovery from reservoir formations.
